Wearable art brooches
My brooches came about simply because I wanted to make myself some unique brooches to wear on my winter coat! I work mainly as an Illustrator and artist and I have always been interested in storytelling and evoking a sense of otherworldliness and the fantastical in my work.
The creative process starts by scribbling various characters and designs in my diary. When I’m happy with a finished sketch, I then proceed to painting the image with a very fine brush onto a small wooden oval that has already been cut and sanded. Each piece is then varnished and a brooch backing attached. There are many different designs and each are created with a lot of love! The brooches are each unique, simply because of the process involved.
Different brooches may have the same essential design but the characters are never a perfect copy, their individual personalities always shine through! They each have their own stories to tell. I believe they can even work in an almost talismanic way, as though these little characters can protect you from life’s little everyday stresses to bring out a more calm and creative side.
